Ballard Marine Construction Inspection, Survey & Testing
Robotics Inspection and Survey
Remote inspection and survey using ROVs, imaging sonar, laser scanning and an AUV collecting multibeam, side-scan, bathymetric and positioning data.
Description
Ballard's Robotics and Survey Division (RSD), launched in 2020, provides remote intervention and inspection solutions for infrastructure and utility clients. The team carries out scheduled and emergency inspections on energy, industrial, infrastructure and maritime projects, using robotics to increase safety and cost-efficiency.
Key features
- Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) with imaging sonar and laser scanning
- Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) collecting multibeam, side-scan, bathymetric and water sensor data
- Internal positioning data (GPS, INS, DVL) within tight tolerances
- Technology selected per project
Applications
Hydroelectric projects and other sub-aqueous facilities where head pressure differential and active equipment make manned diving operations more sensitive, as well as scheduled and emergency inspections of maritime and utility infrastructure.
