About
Ballard traces its roots to Ballard Diving & Salvage, formed in 1978 in Ballard, Washington, to support the commercial fishing fleet with salvage, emergency response and small diving projects in Puget Sound, and to Northwest Underwater Construction, founded in 2001 by Jesse Hutton to serve hydro facilities on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Shilo Hutton acquired Ballard Diving & Salvage in 2006, and the two companies were merged and rebranded as Ballard Marine Construction in 2013.
The company added a Hyperbaric Services Division in 2008 and a Robotics and Survey Division in 2020, and opened regional offices in California (2009), Wisconsin (2013), Florida (2017) and the Mid-Atlantic (2022). Traylor Construction Group invested in Ballard in 2017; Ballard remains a standalone, family-owned company with access to Traylor crew, equipment and fabrication resources.
