Wärtsilä Methanol Engines

Wrtsil

Wärtsilä methanol engine portfolio from 0.8 MW to 21.6 MW: Wärtsilä 20, 31, 32, 46F and 46TS Methanol, fuel-flexible on methanol, conventional fuels and biofuels.

Description

Wärtsilä methanol engines are fuel-flexible 4-stroke engines that run on methanol as well as conventional liquid fuels and biofuels. On green methanol they offer approximately 90% less CO2 than conventional LFO (well to wake), with significant reductions in sulphur and particulate emissions. Retrofit options are available.

Portfolio

  • Wärtsilä 20 Methanol: 4L, 6L, 8L, 9L; 0.8–1.8 MW at 1000 and 1200 rpm; auxiliary engine for container vessels and car carriers on methanol, bio-LFO or LFO
  • Wärtsilä 31 Methanol: 8V–16V; 4.7–9.8 MW at 720 and 750 rpm; for ferries and cruise ships requiring low noise
  • Wärtsilä 32 Methanol: 3.4–5.2 MW at 720 and 750 rpm; launched in 2022 with MethanolPac, type approved by leading classification societies, first deliveries in early 2023
  • Wärtsilä 46F Methanol: inline and V configurations; 7.5–20 MW at 600 rpm; for cruise ships and large merchant vessels
  • Wärtsilä 46TS Methanol: two-stage turbocharging; inline and V configurations; 8.1–21.6 MW at 600 rpm

Applications

Auxiliary and main propulsion power for container vessels, car carriers, ferries, cruise ships, merchant vessels and offshore vessels, such as Van Oord's offshore wind installation vessel with Wärtsilä 32 Methanol engines.
