About
The company's history begins in 1974, when lock maker Tor Sørnes set out to invent a better hotel door opening system; two years later he introduced VingCard, the first recodable keycard door lock. At the same time Bjørn Lyng created Elsafe, the first electronic in-room safe. The two companies joined forces in 1994, and in 2018 VingCard Elsafe became ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, initially focused on the hospitality and marine industries.
The division has grown through acquisitions and today has more than 3,200 employees globally, with access to more than a thousand engineers across its family of companies.
