Description
GICA advocates for improvements to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard and state departments of transportation, and lobbies state legislatures and the U.S. Congress for continued maintenance and construction funding.

Positions are set through resolutions approved annually by the membership, including support for:
- Full funding of the inland waterways Capital Investment Strategy
- A permanent 75/25% Inland Waterways Trust Fund (IWTF) cost share
- Replacement of the IHNC, Bayou Sorrel and Brazos River/Colorado River locks
Coastal and shoreside development
