Wärtsilä Modular Waterjets (WXJ)

Wrtsil

Wärtsilä WXJ modular axial-flow waterjets in sizes 510 to 2350, with up to 3% more thrust, 35% more cavitation margin and 10% lower weight than the earlier LJ mixed-flow design; for fast ferries and naval craft.

Description

Wärtsilä WXJ modular waterjets are single-stage axial-flow waterjets offering a high level of customisation for high-speed vessels. Compared with the predecessor LJ type with mixed-flow pump, the axial pump design delivers up to 3% more thrust, a 25% smaller mounting flange diameter, 10% lower overall weight and a 35% increase in cavitation margin, while keeping small transom interface dimensions.

Range

  • Sizes 510 to 2350 (510, 570, 640, 720, 810, 910, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1620, 1720, 1880, 2020, 2180, 2350)
  • Steerable (SR) and booster (B) versions
  • Mass from 750 kg (510 steerable) to 53,000 kg (2350 steerable)

Key features

  • Axial design requires less transom space and allows higher power density on narrower hulls
  • Inboard-mounted thrust bearing block
  • Optional inboard hydraulics
  • Duplex stainless steel high-performance components
  • Guaranteed impeller tip clearance due to axial shape
  • Customisable and available as fully integrated solutions

Sizing example

A ship with four 1,250 kW engines at 33 knots needs four size 510 waterjets; at 40 knots and 1,250 kW, size 450 can be used.

Applications

Fast ferries, littoral combat ships, fast patrol boats, rescue vessels, fast yachts, fast supply vessels and workboats, and landing craft.
