Wrtsil

Compact, lightweight medium-speed marine engine in diesel (4L–9L, 740–1980 kW) and dual-fuel 20DF (6L–9L, 870–1755 kW) versions at 900, 1000 and 1200 rpm.

Description

The Wärtsilä 20 is a compact, lightweight marine engine for generating sets and main engine applications in mechanical and electric propulsion. It is available in diesel and dual-fuel versions; more than 7500 engines have been delivered since its introduction in the early 1990s.

Technical data

  • Wärtsilä 20 (diesel): 4L, 6L, 8L, 9L; 740 – 1980 kW at 900, 1000 and 1200 rpm; switches between MDO and HFO without power interruption at any load
  • Wärtsilä 20DF (dual-fuel): 6L, 8L, 9L; 870 – 1755 kW at 900, 1000 and 1200 rpm; for constant-speed gensets and variable-speed mechanical drives

Key features

  • Runs on LFO, HFO, liquid biofuels or LNG, switching without loss of power or speed
  • Low fuel oil consumption over a wide load range
  • Optimised power-to-weight and power-to-space ratios with flexible support arrangements
  • Long overhaul intervals and low exhaust emissions
  • 20DF: low gas feed pressure; combustion chamber and controls designed to reduce methane slip
  • Suitable for hybrid installations

Applications

  • Car carriers (PCTC)
  • Merchant and small cargo vessels
