Propulsion control systems for smooth operations

The Wärtsilä Propulsion Control System (PCS) consists of control devices, displays, indicators and modules designed to operate with any propulsion configuration on a modern ship. It is operated through the Wärtsilä ProTouch remote propulsion control system and suits newbuild and retrofit projects.

Wärtsilä ProTouch

ProTouch combines lever units and a touchscreen into a single control point for all propulsors:

• Transverse, steerable and retractable thrusters
• Controllable pitch propellers
• Waterjets
• Gate Rudders

All propulsors are shown on a single screen, with separate views for the captain and for the engineer monitoring propulsion equipment and auxiliaries. Its modular design means fewer components and easier installation for shipbuilders.

Typical layouts

• Rotatable lever units for steerable thrusters or waterjets, with emergency stop and backup select buttons
• Single- or double-headed lever units for transverse thrusters and CP propellers
• 10'' touchscreens with control functions; a second display for redundancy
• Overhead multi-gauge indicator display per propulsor (optional on some layouts)
• Emergency clutch-out buttons for waterjets; optional steering wheel
• ProTouch base unit for basic needs: panel plate with lever unit and 8-button/indication units, no touchscreen

Wärtsilä EcoControl

A smart propulsion control function that automatically and in real time selects the most efficient setpoint between propeller pitch and engine RPM. Available for newbuilds and as a retrofit for existing vessels.

Lifecycle

Wärtsilä follows a lifecycle roadmap aimed at a propulsion control system lifecycle of at least 15 years, after which a replacement system can be purchased.
