SSS Gears Component
SSS Clutch for exhaust energy recovery
SSS Clutch connecting the exhaust power turbine to the steam turbine in marine diesel waste heat recovery systems.
Description
On the Maersk Triple-E class container ships, an SSS Clutch links the exhaust power turbine to the steam turbine in an MHI waste heat recovery system, engaging automatically when the speeds match.
Key features
- Sizes 48T and 68T, both used across the two generations of the 31-vessel class
- Automatic engagement when turbine speeds match
- The system is stated to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 9%
