MacGregor traces its origins to the MacGregor brothers, who patented the steel hatch cover in 1929 and formed MacGregor & Company in 1937. The company states about 2,000 employees in 30 countries and sales of 830 MEUR in 2025.
According to its history page, Cargotec agreed in 2018 to acquire the marine and offshore businesses of TTS Group ASA, and MacGregor completed the acquisition in July 2019.
