Description

The Precision Acoustic Ranging System (PARS) gives Virginia-class submarines the ability to validate and calibrate their sonar arrays. The system can be deployed in any area at any time, eliminating the need for dedicated test facilities or an acoustic range.

Key features

  • Submarine-launched Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) that generates acoustic emissions
  • On-platform processing to receive and analyze the acoustic data
  • Programmable ELV output waveforms and hover depths

Applications

Sonar array validation and calibration on Virginia-class submarines; the programmable ELV extends PARS to many other sonar validation and verification applications.
