Motion Control System

Stability control system first delivered in 1997 that actuates interceptors, roll fins, trim tabs and T-foils in real time to improve seakeeping and reduce vessel motion.

Description

Austal's Motion Control System, first delivered in 1997, improves seakeeping and reduces vessel motion at sea through a stability program that controls interceptors, roll fins, trim tabs and T-foils.

Key features

  • Hydraulically or electrically actuated control surfaces directed by a central control unit
  • Sensors throughout the vessel measure motion; the control unit computes the damping force for each surface and adjusts it in real time
  • Communicates over an integrated digital network installed in the vessel
  • Operator override, adjustment and management from the engineer's control station
  • Remote monitoring via mobile devices on board or on shore through MARINELINK

Applications

  • Ride control for high-speed ferries and other fast vessels (for example the Apetahi Express 66)
