Bayou La Batre, Alabama · Shipyard / Builder
About
The yard began in 1954 when Clarence Steiner bought a small yard repairing wooden boats. It was incorporated in 1969 and by the mid-1970s had moved into new construction of steel and aluminum vessels.
Ownership passed to Tara Steiner Marshall in 2019, and the business operates as Steiner Shipbuilding Inc. (DBA Steiner Shipyard). The company describes itself as a small yard with many of the capabilities of larger ones, and it also converted the Black Pearl for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean films.
