About
Reinauer was established in 1923 by Bert Reinauer, who converted a fishing vessel, the JAMES D, into a self-propelled motor tanker with a 13,000 gallon tank to carry fuel through inland waters. Each new vessel carried the insignia of an R in a Diamond.
In 1930 the family created a company to serve New England, which became Boston Towing & Transportation (BTT). The group remains family-owned and operated and is now in its fourth generation of management.
Erie Basin Bargeport is described as a joint venture between Reinauer Transportation and Hughes Maritime.
