Optical Bearing Device (OBD)

ScanRepeater · Model SR02

Type-approved optical bearing device that lets officers fix the ship's position independently of GPS and detect GPS spoofing or jamming, with bearing lines shown in ECDIS/radar.

Description

The Optical Bearing Device lets the navigation officer determine the ship's position independently of the GPS and detect spoofing or jamming of the GPS system. Originally designed for high-speed navigation in narrow fjords without relying on GPS, it was trialed and installed on Norwegian Navy and Coast Guard ships and is installed on many cruise ships, navy and coast guard ships and some mega yachts.

Key features

  • Displays an Optical Bearing Line (OBL) directly in ECDIS and/or radar
  • Optical position fixes (P-Fix) and running fixes (R-Fix) with CPA, TCPA and range to fixed objects
  • Stores optical position fixes in an electronic logbook
  • Identifies other ships using real-time AIS information in the OBD display
  • Certified as a group I azimuth reading device (ISO 25862 Annex C); with a certified gyro compass input may cover SOLAS V/19.5.3 for a gyro-compass bearing repeater

Versions include the pull-down/hanging SR02-01, the pelorus-mounted SR02-02, and dual (SR02-SYS2, one per bridge wing) and triple (SR02-SYS3, center plus both wings) systems connected to ECDIS.
