About
The selective plating technique was developed in Paris in 1938. A Toronto firm incorporated in 1954 to make the solutions and equipment was bought in 1959 by Steel Improvement and Forge Company (later SIFCO Industries), which moved operations to Cleveland, Ohio; the business later moved to Independence, Ohio. SIFCO acquired Selectrons Ltd. in 1992, the Selmet job shop in Rättvik, Sweden in 2005 and the assets of Liquid Development Company (LDC) in 2015.
Norman Hay plc acquired SIFCO ASC in 2012 and was itself acquired by Quaker Houghton in 2019. In 2026 SIFCO Applied Surface Concepts changed its name to SIFCO Process® to align with Quaker Houghton's brand architecture. The quality and environmental management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and AS9100 D; two facilities are Nadcap accredited to AC7108 and are FAA repair stations. Accreditation documents also list an ABS Product Design Assessment.
