Description
The Heinen & Hopman MGO Cooler controls fuel temperature when engines switch from heavy fuel oil (HFO) to low-sulphur marine gas oil/diesel (MGO/MDO) to meet MARPOL sulphur limits in ECA waters. Low-sulphur MGO has low viscosity and poor lubricity, which can damage fuel pumps designed for HFO; engine makers advise a minimum of 2 cSt at the fuel pump inlet, with over 3 cSt strongly recommended for engine start and stop. Cooling the fuel keeps viscosity within these limits.
