Geared Shaft Generators
ABB geared shaft generators tailored to the vessel design, for fixed or variable speed operation; synchronous types from 500 to 5000 kW and asynchronous PTO/PTI/PTH types from 100 to 7000 kW.
Description
ABB geared shaft generators are tailored to each vessel design and produce on-board electrical power from the main engine, reducing fuel costs and emissions. Solutions are available for fixed speed operation (low to high voltage) and for variable speed operation using a low- or medium-voltage frequency converter.
Operating modes
- PTO (power take off) – the shaft generator supplies on-board power.
- PTI (power take in) – variable speed shaft generators operate as a motor to boost main engine power.
- PTH (power to home) – the shaft generator serves as an alternative propulsion motor to the main engine.
